The
Problem

Huawei approached Greenwoods to provide a turnkey solution to the
challenge they faced in meeting the aggressive timescales given
by BT. As part of the solution the following key factors needed
to be considered and addressed;
- Site Survey; which would include a logistics survey to ensure
the cabinet could be deployed in accordance with the New Roads
and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA)
- Noticing with local authorities including requesting a permit
to work on the streetside, road closures or traffic management
- Storage and logistics including deployment to site
- Liaising with BT regional teams
- Installation activities on site
- Commissioning activities on site
- Full remote site integration
- Hand over and sign off to BT and Huawei
The
Solution

Greenwoods Communications used their past experience and specialised
expertise in providing a complete end to end solution which suited
the customer's requirements. A dedicated Service Delivery Management
team was appointed; this in turn was supported by a team of highly
skilled engineers to ensure that the project ran smoothly from receipt
of order to handover of the completed commissioned cabinets to BT.
Greenwoods appointed NRSWA accredited surveyors to undertake individual
surveys of each location, identifying the best working practices
for the deployment and installation of the FTTC cabinet in accordance
with NRSWA guidelines.
Dedicated resource within the Service Delivery team undertook noticing
of works daily. This involved the monitoring and tracking of daily
activities whilst recording these on the BT noticing system called
'Eaton'. Site specific information was loaded to ensure the local
authorities were aware that the works are being completed to the
required standard.
Greenwoods received direct delivery of FTTC cabinets from Huawei
and then these are managed and stored in our secure warehouse facility.
Remote storage is then considered to ensure timely deployment of
cabinets to remote locations. This remote storage enables cost effective
deployment of cabinets to streetside locations within its specified
region.
Greenwoods and Huawei developed a best working practices guide
for the installation of the FTTC cabinet. By providing onsite NRSWA
supervision on all sites, quality standards are achieved whilst
ensuring full NRSWA compliance. The NRSWA supervisor is responsible
for the completion of the final quality audit.
After the local electricity contractor has made the power connection
to the cabinet Greenwoods Commissioning Engineers return to site
to undertake the commissioning and integration activities. This
is also co-ordinated with a Greenwoods integration engineer who
is permanently based at Huawei's UK headquarters in Basingstoke.
Documentation is then submitted to both BT and Huawei.
