|
 |
| One of the UK's largest

in November 2001. Greenwoods were given the responsibility
of managing over 70 engineers across the UK who will be
working on the carrier's national network. |

On
award of the contract it was agreed that only one month would be provided
in which to implement the networking services. Throughout the month
of December, Greenwoods took responsibility for the engineers who
were brought in especially for the outsource contract. The engineers
had their capabilities assessed, were provided with necessary tools,
equipment and vehicles, and were organised into teams to span the
entire UK. In parallel to this a detailed billing system was implemented
to capture all tasks carried out by the engineering teams and to report
this back to the operator. 10,000 different tasks were recorded in
the month of January alone. "All engineers completed interviews
and assessments at Greenwoods in-house training school to ensure they
had the required skills for the project. Interviewing, assessing and
compiling skills profiles on over 70 engineers was a fairly large
task. However, due to our experience in network installations we are
totally aware of what is required to manage a project such as this
and were able to turn this initial task around quickly", commented
Wayne Hamilton, training school manager, who co-ordinated this initial
requirement. The
engineers being used for the project will cover all major UK cities,
with 365 days a year, 24 hours a day coverage. The project consists
of de-installing existing switch site equipment, network 'jumpering',
and carrying out moves and changes at customer end networks. The contract
is scheduled to last three years. "Greenwoods are a highly
flexible organisation with a great deal of expertise in telecom networks.
It is because of this flexibility and knowledge that we are able to
respond quickly to a carriers network requirements and assist them
in certain areas so they can concentrate on the core elements of their
business", commented Frank Hodder, business development manager. |
