A
major OEM is taking advantage of Greenwoods' capability to provide
full traceability of fibre patchcords and cable assemblies for the
roll-out of ADSL. Greenwoods offered a solution to record information
on every component part that went into each cable assembly and to
assign to all of them a unique barcode. Each barcode links to a mine
of information and by entering the number into a bespoke application,
created by Greenwoods, the history of the assembly can be accessed.
The information retained ranges from the operator and tester of an
assembly, to the date it was built and the cable manufacturer. All
this information is available thanks to just one barcoded Brady® label,
whereas other companies use several labels, each pertaining to different
pieces of history on the product: our system is efficient and unobtrusive
to the engineers.
|
| This offers support to the OEM
by offering peace of mind at a time when traceability is vital.
Such a system allows both parties to have more control: the
customer knows by reading a number over the phone that Greenwoods
can quickly identify and resolve any issues that may arise.
Martin Barnwell, key account manager for Brady Europe, the supplier
of the labels and related equipment, pointed out that due to
the high quality of their products this is no short-term solution:
"Our labelling systems are designed specifically for our customers'
needs and are resistant to a variety of potential hazards including
fuels, chemicals, water and abrasion. In an industrial environment,
they stand the test of time and the histories of the cables
remain easily accessible." |
